Peggy King, President/Founder
Peggy King has dedicated her life to helping people, pets and their causes. In doing so,
she has touched many people's lives and their dreams. In 1999 the Northwest Herald
nominated Peggy as an "EVERYDAY HERO" for her community involvement, which
includes raising money for the CROP Walk, Salvation Army, American Cancer Society
and St. Jude's for Children. Peggy's passion is the driving force behind the McHenry
County "Angels with Tails" no-kill animal shelter.

I am very pleased to be asked to serve on the board of Angels with Tails Animal Shelter Fund.
My love for animals started when I was very young. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the
injured, abandoned and neglected animals.
I always wanted to be a veterinarian but having 6 children and raising them left me with no time
for academics. Instead I took it upon myself to learn healing practices for animals. My passion for
helping the stray and abandoned has never wavered. My fiance and I have many rescued pets
on our 6 acres including horses, dogs, cats, birds, ducks, rabbits, goats, a pony and a baby calf.
Recently my daughter and I were walking in a wooded area and a squirrel came running up to me
for help. My daughter commented, now they're coming to you. There are not many animals in this
area that I haven't helped at one time or another.
I've been a professional dog groomer for 16 years. In my spare time I volunteer at Orphans of
the Storm as well as with other rescue groups that find the right foster homes for each animal.
I've also worked at a kennel. This extensive experience has given me additional knowledge about
dogs and their behavior. I've seen too many people getting dogs not suited for their lifestyle.
There is a dog out there for everyone but you need to realize it takes time, patience and lots of
love own one. It is my hope that with this shelter we find pets their perfect home.

Cheryl Jiran, Director
Cheryl has worked in Customer Relations for over 20 years. Cheryl's greatest joy is
helping animals and being a part of the Angels with Tails Shelter organization. She
currently has 3 pets she has adopted from shelters.

Sharon Melahn, Treasurer
I am retired and have worked in the manufacturing business for 33+
years. Various titles held include assistant team leader, group leader,
supervisor and trainer. I also assisted in the scheduling of orders and
various computer works. I am married, have two children, 5
grandchildren, one great grandson and my best friend Buddy the
beagle. I enjoy volunteering at Angels with Tails Resale Shop and
working with Peggy to make this shelter a huge success. I love animals
and with this shelter more of our best friends will be saved and find
loving homes.
